beach boys There’s a new book about the Beach Boys called Beach Boys Beach Boys From Genesis Press. Its text comes from “extensive interviews” Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardin and Bruce Johnstonalso includes archival texts of the late Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson.
Several other musicians also contributed, including Thom Yorke from Radiohead, Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac, The Flaming Lips, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Elvis Costello, Ray Davies from The Kinks, Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream, Bob Dylan, Roger McGuinn from The Byrds, Graham Nash, Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Rufus Wainwright, Carly Simon, David Lee Rothetc., as well as photos from album launches, rehearsals and tours, etc. The content of the announcement is as follows:

Extensive live footage includes rehearsals for the band’s first European tour and the first live performance of “Good Vibrations,” which Brian Wilson traveled 2,000 miles to oversee.
The photographs are accompanied by ephemera from the years, including tape cassettes, tour posters and programs, handwritten notes and lyrics, newspaper clippings, album advertisements, chord charts and studio documents—all of which help illustrate their remarkable story.

The band members tell their story from the beginning: signed their first recording contract with Capitol Records, and produced some of the most perfect and sunniest singles ever – “Surfer Girl”/”Little Deuce Coupe “, “I Get around” / “Don’t Worry Baby” and “California Girls” / “Let Him Run Wild”, to name a few, as well as sharing their work on revered albums (like Pet Sounds) and fan favorites Loved Wild Honey, Friends, Sunflower and Holland. The story follows their journey around the world, from school fundraisers to global tours and landmark performances such as their visit to Czechoslovakia as the first Western band in 1969 and New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1972.
