So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SEXXY RED, A$AP FERG & MCVERTT – “FACE DOWN”
“Pound Town” rapper Sexxy Red, Jersey club architect MCVERTT, and New York rap lifer A$AP Ferg have come together on a very fun new track that brings out the best in all three of them.

RATBOYS – “CROSSED THAT LINE”
Ratboys have shared another taste of The Window, and this one’s a fuzzed-out lo-fi indie rock ripper.
—
MUTUAL BENEFIT – “WASTELAND COMPANIONS”
“‘Wasteland Companions’ was inspired by a bittersweet hike I took years ago where the final vista revealed the aftermath of a forest fire,” Jordan Lee says. “While it was a terrible sight, I was also moved by the new growth popping up. The imagery stayed with me and served as an important reminder of the life-changing relationships that can flourish in adverse conditions.” The poignant folk song is the latest single off his new album as Mutual Beneift, Growing At The Edges.

JAIMIE BRANCH – “BABA LOUIE”
“Baba Louie” is the latest song released from the posthumous jaimie branch album Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war)). Her bandmate Lester St. Louis says, “It was clear that this tune was the joyous tune for the record. It was that special jaimie joy, where she’s happy, laughing super loud, cracking jokes, having drinks with the homies, eating pizza in front of San Pedro then getting told we can’t and eating from the trunk of her brother’s car with the whole Branch clan… just good vibes all around.” You definitely hear those good vibes coming through in this track.

THE HIVES – “TRAPDOOR SOLUTION” & “THE BOMB”

SPEEDY ORTIZ – “GHOSTWRITER”
The latest single from Speedy Ortiz’s anticipated new album Rabbit Rabbit is “Ghostwriter,” which is accompanied by a video directed by Alex Ross Perry and featuring Josh Gondelman, Ted Leo, and more. “While ‘Ghostwriter’ ruminates on the horrible realities that stoke my anger—in this song’s case, the death of our climate and the criminalization of environmental protesters—it’s also about trying to live with less rage in the day-to-day,” Sadie Dupuis says. “And not always succeeding, but not getting mad about that, either. And sometimes directing that angry adrenaline toward positive actions. My bandmates picked ‘Ghostwriter’ as a single, perhaps because it subtly nods to our unabashed love of nu metal. It was really fun to reunite with Alex Ross Perry after shooting together for his Pavement movie last fall, especially the part where we subjected him to so very many Deftones and Limp Bizkit videos for inspiration. The great Josh Gondelman improvised at least a dozen good ‘nu metal cover band’ pun names for the intro, which made it hard to keep a straight face as our nu metal performance ‘Pleasantville’-ifies our crowd of friends into the most immaculate Hot Topic c. 2003 getups.”

PETER GABRIEL – “OLIVE TREE”
“In some ways I do think we are part of everything and we probably have means to connect and communicate with everything that we often shut off,” says Peter Gabriel in regards to “Olive Tree,” the latest song shared from his highly anticipated new album, i/o. “We only want to see and listen to the things that seem important and relevant to us and shut out the noise of everything else when, probably, hidden in that noise there are all sorts of things that can help us realise our place in this future world.”
—

—
KATE DAVIS – “LONG LONG LONG (ACOUSTIC)”
“‘Long Long Long (acoustic)’ was a wintertime accident,” Kate Davis says of the new alternate rendition of the track from her first album for ANTI-, Fish Bowl. “I was inside all the time playing guitar and stumbled upon a set of meditative but challenging chords. They already lived in the song, but not in my hands, so I played it every day for months. This song was already really important to me, but it became a new vehicle for physical and emotional direction during a super lost season. I made this recording with Armand Hirsch, one of my oldest friends.”
—
FINAL GASP – “CLIMAX INFINITY”
Final Gasp offer up another taste of howling, Danzig-y goth rock with “Climax Infinity” off their upcoming Relapse debut.
—
HISS GOLDEN MESSENGER – “20 YEARS AND A NICKEL”
“If the 14 songs on Jump for Joy might be heard as the Book of Michael Crow, a temporal travelogue, of sorts, that traces the ecstasy and sorrow of a life lived alongside music through a character very similar to me, then perhaps ’20 Years and a Nickel’ is the prologue,” M.C. Taylor says of the latest single off Hiss Golden Messenger’s new album, Jump For Joy. “Not only is it the first song, but it also lays out two opposing perspectives that I am lately trying to hold in my hands, and brain, simultaneously. Namely, after twenty years and a nickel—my longhand for 25 years, although I guess I’ve been writing songs even longer than that—I’m a little bit of an expert on the form AND I have no idea how to write a song. Is there such a thing as a simple song? Maybe. But they don’t come easy.”
—
WITNESS CHAMBER – “BY THE FINGER OF GOD” (ft. JESS NYX)
The latest taste of Boise metallic hardcore band Witness Chamber’s new EP for DAZE features Jess Nyx of Mortality Rate and World of Pleasure, and it’s a real rager.
—

Hannah Georgas’ new album I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn’t Care is out later this month, and the latest taste is “Home.” “I feel like the word home is really emotionally loaded and can mean so many different things to different people,” she says. “This song is about dealing with feelings of being lost and unsettled, and comparing that to others who seem to have it figured out. It’s about a feeling of estrangement and exclusion, only made even more polarising when you’re confronted with the opposite experience amongst your peers or in the media.”
—

THIRD EYE BLIND – “THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES” (SINÉAD O’CONNOR COVER)
Third Eye Blind paid tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor with a cover of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” “Years after she got canceled for her Pope picture protest, Sinéad was playing early in the day at a festival in Boston, while the crowd was still walking in,” Stephan Jenkins says. “I got to watch from the side of the stage while she humbly made the music that was real to her. I thought it was cool and legit and I wanted everyone to see it. I got to meet her backstage and invited her to play with my band later in the day and she obliged. We played ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ together. I don’t think people really knew it. We loved it. I danced around playing my acoustic guitar while she sang. We hugged and smiled onstage when the song was done and I was delighted. It was the last time I ever saw her.”
