NOFX are playing their final shows ever later this year, but the punk veterans aren’t done releasing new music. Fat Mike and company have announced a five-song collection titled Half Album, out April 19th via Fat Wreck Chords. As a preview, they’ve shared the lead single, “I’m a Rat.”
In a press statement, Mike described Half Album as the fifth side of a double album also combining their last two full-lengths, 2021’s Single Album and 2022’s Double Album. “These songs were all recorded at the same time,” he explained. “It just takes me a while to finish shit. So, this is me tying up loose ends, which is very good for the soul.”
Meanwhile, the lead single “I’m a Rat” has an interesting origin story. Written by Mike, it contains 54 chords and was first recorded by the Japanese punk band Hi-Standard before a second version was included on last year’s Fat Mike Gets Strung Out. The accompanying video features a parody of the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse dubbed Steamboat Fatty, who gets up to all sorts of hijinks. Watch it below.

NOFX fans will be happy to know Half Album isn’t officially the band’s final record, as Fat Mike has “plenty more in the pipeline,” according to a press release. Instead, it’s described as “the beginning of the end (or the end of the beginning of the future) of NOFX as we know them.”
Later this month, NOFX will continue their farewell tour with a trio of shows in Japan, followed by runs across Europe and North America. See the full list of dates below, and find deals for North American concerts here and international shows here.
