Novak Djokovic showed the world why he is one of the best tennis player that has ever graced the tennis court.
The Serbian increased the number of grand slams that he has won to 24. Novak Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 inside Arthur Ashe Stadium equalling Margaret Court record for the most Grand Slam singles trophies in tennis history on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
Djokovic expressed his excitement after winning his 24th grand slam title.
“To make history of this sport is just something truly remarkable and special. Obviously in every in every possible way, in every possible meaning of the word special. It’s hard to describe in words. I had the childhood dream when I was seven, eight. I wanted to become the best player in the world and win the Wimbledon trophy. That was the only thing I wanted. But then when I realised that, obviously I started to dream new dreams and set new objectives, new goals. I never imagined that I would be here standing with you talking about 24 Slams.”
The Serbian International has reclaimed his number one spot with 11,795 points which is 3,000 points clear of second-placed Alcaraz, whose title defense ended in the semifinal stage. Daniil Medvedev gained 1,020 points but remains in third spot. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev rise two spots to 5th and 6th respectively.
Djokovic is the first player in tennis to with 3 Grand Slams in a year for the third time, he is also the oldest person to win the US Open in Open Era.
