So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
OLIVIA RODRIGO – “BAD IDEA RIGHT?”
“‘bad idea right?’ started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something,” Olivia Rodrigo says of the second single off her new album GUTS, which has her giving a very funny rapid-fire delivery of a frantic inner monlogue. “We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall — in one of choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me gradually screaming louder and louder.”

UNIIQU3 – “SHAKE THE ROOM” FT. DOS FLAKOS
“I’m really excited about this collaboration,” UNIIQU3 says of her energetic new track.” I’m a big fan of Dos Flakos and they’ve always supported me since day one. This was a long time coming and happened so organically. It’s the perfect blend of Latin House, Jersey Club with a sprinkle of Ballroom samples to accompany the bass which was inspired by the nightlife we’re a part of in NYC and New Jersey. Writing the verse was extra fun because I knew the lyrics had to embody the energy of the track. We’ve been teasing this banger out all summer all over the world so we’re finally giving people what they’ve been anticipating.”

ANDREW HUNG – “SOLDIER”

ALLISON RUSSELL – “SNAKELIFE”
Allison Russell’s new album The Returner is out next month, and she’s shared another track from it, the haunting “Snakelife.” “This song is a conjuring,” she says. “A summoning. A spell. An invocation of the Afro-Future-Rainbow-Coalition-Transformative Universe I wish to inhabit and foster. How do we use our words? Who do we value? How do we love ourselves and each other? How do we turn dreams into reality? Growth, transformation, evolution are uncomfortable. We can handle it. We are stardust after all— energy indivisible and indestructible. From the Word, The World…”

METRIC – “NOTHING IS PERFECT”
Heartfest acoustic ballad “Nothing is Perfect” is the latest single off Metric’s new album Formentera II. “‘Nothing Is Perfect’ stands out on Formentera II as the lone track that is carried by only acoustic guitar and vocals,” Emily Haines says. “We explored many renditions of this song during the recording process, but in the end found that everything we tried adding seemed to detract from the essence of it. Lyrically, ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ takes the common expression away from its usual meaning, giving substance to ‘nothing’ as a concrete thing that can be actively pursued and obtained: Nothing is perfect/ I’ve earned it/ All absence achieved/ No fences, no exits, no lies. For the official music video, we worked with Justin Broadbent to create an atmospheric and surreal visual accompaniment to enhance the otherworldly mood of the song, with stylistic nods to Terrence Malick and David Lynch. The song ends with a meditative and anthemic repetition of the word ‘nothing’, like I’m celebrating it and singing its praises. I love nothing!”

MEDITATIONS ON CRIME – “ROBBIN’ HOODS” Ft. QUELLE CHRIS, JEAN GRAE, MONEY MARK
Author Harper Simon co-wrote and produced “Robbin’ Hoods” from his multimedia project Meditations on Crime, which features Quelle Chris, Jean Grade, and Money Mark. “Mark and I ended up building a track together with him programming the drum loop and providing keys while I played the bass and added a synth melody,” Simon says. “Carla Azar overdubbed live drums. Then Quelle Chris and Jean came on and killed it, in my opinion. Since then, Jean’s moved on from her career as a rapper, so this ended up being one of her last features on a record, maybe. Very honored to have worked with all of them!”
