Pernice Brothers have announced Who Will You Believe, their eighth album and first in five years, which will be released April 5 via New West. Joe Pernice produced the album, which features regular collaborators Bob Pernice, Peyton Pinkerton, Patrick Berkery, Laura Stein, Liam Jaeger, Michael McKenzie and Joshua Karp. For fans of Pernice Brothers’ lush 2001 World Won’t End, this one boasts strings, horns and Toronto-based choral group Choir! Choir! Choir!
The album includes “The Purple Rain,” a tribute to late friends David Berman, Rhino Records founder Gary Stewart and Pernice’s cousin Joe Harvard (who founded Fort Apache Studios) that Pernice Brothers have been playing for a while now, and “I Don’t Need That Anymore,” which is a duet with Neko Case. The first single from the album, though, is its title track, which showcases Joe’s deft touch with melody, lyrics and arrangements. Listen to that, and check out the album art and tracklist below.
Joe Pernice will play a solo show at Nashville’s Five Spot on February 5 with old frined John P Strohm (Blake Babies), and there’s a NYC record release party on April 3 at Le Poisson Rouge. Tickets for the LPR show will be available soon.
