So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

KEYON HARROLD – “FOREVERLAND” FT. LAURA MVULA, CHRIS DAVE, BURNISS TRAVIS & ROBERT GLASPER
The latest single from Keyon Harrold’s new album Foreverland, due out January 19 via Concord Jazz, is the lush, soulful “Foreverland,” which features Laura Mvula, Chris Dave, Burniss Travis, and Robert Glasper. “Laura Mvula’s voice is the conduit and conductor of a pure vibe and a blissful journey into a new world of love and possibilities, Foreverland, which is equally a sonic wonderland,” Keyon says. “My muted trumpet playing and voice are anchored and guided by the groove and cross-rhythms of the one and only Chris Daddy Dave, along with the thundering bass of Burniss Travis, and the exquisite touch of the piano keys by Robert Glasper. As the title track of the album, it’s a unique, timeless, and beautiful experience. The lyrics really speak to the emotions and possibilities of the depth of love, especially through its chorus that poses a quandary for the longing heart; ‘What would it take for you to get on board with me, to take some different train of thought? It could be something more, and then we’d find ourselves lost in Foreverland.’ I feel with the culmination and convergence of each voice on this record, this piece is a layered viscereality.”

ELLIS – “FOREVER”
Ontario musician Linnea Siggelkow is back with her first new single as Ellis since 2021, the dreamy “forever,” which she says is the preview of more new music on the way in 2024. “Ultimately ‘forever’ is about how time is short and long and fast and slow, depending on where you’re standing and who you’re standing beside,” she says. “Lately it also feels like it’s all of those things all at once. It seems that when i’m not looking ahead with excitement, i’m sort of looking back with regret, and regret is such a sucky, all-consuming feeling.”
—
CONFIDENCE MAN – “FIREBREAK”
Say Confidence Man of the duo’s housey new single: “Can’t stop won’t stop. We’re relentless. Almost incessant. So here’s Firebreak, custom made for the next Super Bowl halftime show. We got one word for you – phenomenal.”

I was listening to a lot of Oneohtrix Point Never, and we used him as a sonic reference.”

SPRING SUMMER – “HOLIDAY DREAM” FT MAC MCCAUGHAN
“I wanted to make a song about the longing we can feel during the holidays to be with the ones you love or have loved–like a movie that ends happily ever after,” says Spring Summer’s Jennifer Furches of her new single featuring Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan. “There was something about it I felt Mac would connect with and make better: and he did! We have roots in the same place in North Carolina, but have both spent time in New York. There’s something so special about New York during the holidays, and this song speaks to those snowy nights in the city with the one person you want to be with the most.”

WEAKENED FRIENDS – “AWKWARD”
Portland, Maine trio Weakened Friends are back with their first new music of the year, “Awkward.” “All the songs I’ve ever written are really depressing,” Sonia Sturino says. “‘Awkward’ was my attempt at writing a song about something joyful. I don’t know if I really nailed it, since it’s still filled with the ol’ self doubt narrative, but I’d like to think this song is more on the positive side. ‘Awkward’ really pinpoints the feeling you get when everything is just new and exciting. I wanted to dive into the feeling of having a big practically life altering crush, where you’re equal parts excited, embarrassed and terrified. As someone who identifies as queer, I think it’s important to also share the happier, more joyful experiences regarding love and relationships, it’s not always dread, doom and gloom, and ‘Awkward’ is a testament to that!”

MARCI – “STOP”
TOPS’ Marta Cikojevic has a new single out via her MARCI solo project. “‘Stop’ is that incessant yet addictive thought that’s parked itself inside your head,” she says of the song. “Will you let it take over?”

So naturally, we’ve been painting most of our lyrical themes in that particular color scheme since the very beginning. With ‘Squat Walker’ we wanted to try a more optimistic approach, allowing some rays of hope to shine through. The result is a hooky protest song about the value of not giving up and of fighting for what you believe is good and true.”
