Pinkshift have announced their new EP, suraksha, out October 13th via Hopeless Records. In anticipation, they’ve also shared the latest single, “home.”
As the CoSign alums explained in a statement, the new project was inspired by their heritage. “I grew up listening to Bollywood and Indian classical music would round out the songs perfectly,” said vocalist Ashrita Kumar. “Going into the studio, the only thing on my mind was my family, and making these songs was unique because in my head I was making it for them.”
The EP’s title speaks to the same inspiration: surakṣā (or सुरक्षा) is a Hindi word borrowed from Sanskrit meaning protection or security. See the artwork and tracklist for suraksha below; pre-orders are ongoing.
Featuring distorted guitar riffs, “home” speaks to the idea of finding comfort with chosen family as Kumar sings, “You’ll never be alone again/ I’ll always stay/ We’ll never go home again/ But I’m still the same.” Indian classical instruments are added into the mix as the track comes to a close. Stream it below.
suraksha also includes the Baltimore punk group’s April single, “to me,” and serves as the follow-up to their debut album, Love Me Forever, which dropped last fall.
