Toronto punks Pkew Pkew Pkew have announced new album, Siiick Days, due out September 22 via Stomp Records. Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls recorded it over ten days mid-pandemic in Asbury Park, and says, “It was an awesome experience making this record with these guys. Honest, great and clever people making honest, great and clever music. I was a fan the first time I heard them and am a fan for life after this experience. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Craig Finn of The Hold Steady provided “songwriting guidance-and-support” on their last album, 2022’s Open Bar, and he also contributed to this one was a “lyrical consultant,” saying, “A new Pkew record is always exciting for me. I love this band and the way they write about the dread and alienation of modern life, as well as the moments of elation that get us through.”
The lead single is the immediately appealing “The Dumbest Thing I Ever Done,” which vocalist and bassist MIke Warne says is about having to sell his Playstation after the band’s 2020 European tour, “which sucked because the world was about to go into lockdown and no video games = no fun.” Watch the accompanying video below.
