Restorations have announced their first album since 2018. It’s self-titled (and not their first self-titled album) and due March 22 (US pre-order / EU pre-order). The band members are now spread between Philly, Asheville, and Buffalo, and the band says they really took their time, with no deadlines, contractual obligations, or tours to have it done in time for. They made it at Philly’s Retro City Studios with guitarist Dave Klyman engineering, and the first taste of the album is “Cured,” which premieres in this post.
Restorations may have slowed down, but “Cured” is just as urgent as anything they released during their busy mid 2010s era. It’s fueled by a big, sludgy, lurching bassline, embellished with a hint of psychedelia, and Jon Loudon’s gravelly howl is full of life. Or as Dave Kylman puts it, “‘”Cured’ is vintage Restorations minus any preconceived notions of what that’s supposed to mean. We leaned hard into doing what was fun and made us smile in the room. That’s a sentiment that carries over into the whole album.”
You can definitely feel that positive energy coming through, and it sounds like a triumphant return. Listen below.
Restorations have a few shows coming up, including an NYC release show at TV Eye on April 21, which is with Signals Midwest. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 9 at 10 AM ET.
