In anticipation of the project’s release, Rez picked out some of the goth songs she’s been inspired by over the years. Take a look below.
Flyleaf – “Around me“
My sister and I have loved Flyleaf since we were kids. I was 10 and she was 11, and that’s when we got into their music. We bonded over listening to Flyleaf, it was a mutual love. This is one of my favorites because I love everything about this song: the atmosphere, the vocals and the instrumentation. I am fascinated.
Flyleaf – “I’m sick”
I still love this song to this day. I’m absolutely obsessed with her vibes, voices and melodies. I really love everything about Flyleaf’s music. This was definitely one of my favorite bands growing up.
My Chemical Romance – “Helena”
My Chemical Romance was one of my first obsessions. Everything about this album was a staple of my childhood. I’ll be listening to it on repeat on my MP3 player. “Helena” really stands out to me as one of my favorite songs on the album. I loved the sound of it and still love it to this day.
Bring Me the Horizon – “Song of Joy”
I saw Bring Me The Horizon live for the first time at the New Orleans Voodoo Festival. I had some free time and I wanted to see them live, so I went with my tour manager to see them. When they performed “Ode to Joy,” I was instantly smitten with the song. I’ve been a Bring Me The Horizon fan since I was 11 or 12 years old, but at this point, I’m a big fan.
AFI – “Miss Murder”
This song is very nostalgic for me. I remember watching the music video on MuchMusic. They always have music videos on MuchMusic and I always thought it was an addictive video to watch along with the song. To this day, I still remember everything about that music video. That’s great.
Green Day – “Avenue of Broken Dreams”
Green Day was the first band I fell in love with, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams is such a classic. The Billie Jo Armstrong look is so cool to me. His stage presence is effortless, and the whole band is dressed in my favorite colors of red and black, and their overall aesthetic really stands out to me.
Paramore – “Decoded”
i was watching twilight I remember hearing that song and immediately thinking it was awesome, and then finding it again with the same initial feeling. I feel like I hear this song by accident every so often, and it’s just so good every time. I have to listen to it again now.
Deftones – “Change (at the House of the Flies)”
I only recently discovered this song. I’ve heard of the Deftones for a long time, listened to their music, but revisited their work. I listened to this song and it was really inspiring. A lot of the melodies in the songs, the music, the use of instruments, the way the vocals are used is unbelievable.
Silverstein – “The End (feat. Lights)”
I remember listening to this song over and over again when it first came out. I would go to Toronto alone or with my family and I have such vivid memories of being on the bus looking out the window with this song playing in my headphones and loving it so much. The lighting is just amazing.
Underoath – “Writing on the Wall”
One of my favorite songs. It’s always playing on MuchMusic. I love this music video. His voice at the beginning of this song is so nice. Some of my favorite male voices I’ve ever heard in my life. As far as I like the sound of music, the softness and tone before the scream is the main thing.
