So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
BDRMM – “STANDARD TUNING”
UK group bdrmm are back with their first new music since last year’s I Don’t Know. “Standard Tuning” picks up where that left off, mixing elements of shoegaze and trip hop into a heady, simmering winner. “’Standard Tuning’ is an important track in the ever-changing development of our creative process, as it was a collaboration between myself and Jordan,” says frontman Ryan Smith. “I created the loop using techniques such as stretching samples and chopping them, and Jordan added synthetics and drum processing and structured it into the track you hear now. Lyrically, the words followed the loss of an old childhood friend. Despite the fact of not speaking to somebody for years, you still feel an atmosphere of upset and loss. The passing affected the Hull community in such a way that it was impossible not to be affected by it. The song is about loss and a tribute to old friends.”

BABEHOVEN – “BIRDSEYE”
New York duo Babehoven announced a new album, Water’s Here In You, due out on April 26 via Double Double Whammy, and shared the first single, folky album opener “Birdseye.” “‘Birdseye’ is about the fragility and mystery of life, forgiveness, and reconnection,” Maya Bon says. “The bird’s eye view with ‘one long arrow pointed at you’ represents love from afar, a cardinal direction. It is a song about warmth, represented by the aromatic spices ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon in the heat of a stew. Steeped in a perfumed simmer of care, we move through the pain and find a way to forgive.”

CRUSH YOUR SOUL (mem MINDFORCE) – S/T EP
Mindforce vocalist Jay Peta is now also leading a new band called Crush Your Soul, whose lineup also includes members of East Coast heavy-hitters like Scarab, Simulakra, Gridiron, and Recycled Earth. The band’s heavy metallic hardcore isn’t miles away from Mindforce, and Jay’s instantly-recognizable voice sounds as great as ever.

SPACED – “RAT RACE”
Buffalo hardcore band Spaced have followed the great “Landslide” with another taste of their anticipated debut LP for Revelation, This Is All We Get. “Rat Race” is a groovy, catchy hardcore song that vocalist Lexi Reyngoudt says is “about not fitting into everyday life while simultaneously not caring about it.”

HEALTH – “BE QUIET AND DRIVE (FAR AWAY)” (DEFTONES COVER)
HEALTH have just released a cover of the Deftones classic “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away),” and they basically make it sound like a HEALTH song. It’s very cool and you can read more about it (and enter to win tickets to their upcoming tour and a vinyl copy of last year’s RAT WARS) here.

MIKE LINDSAY (TUUNG, LUMP) – “LIE DOWN” FT ANNA B SAVAGE
“The song itself is loosely based on reverse FOMO, when you’re out every night but yearning for domestic bliss, with all the menial tasks like taking out the rubbish and watching guilty pleasure telly,” Mike Lindsay (Tuung / LUMP) says of the lead track from his forthcoming solo debut. “There is an unsettling, never-ending cycle of sevens on this track, you never quite get to relax.”
