So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ROME STREETZ – “FIRE AT YA IDLE MIND” (ft. JOEY BADA$$)
Rome Streetz’s new project Noise Kandy 5 comes out next week (9/29), and its latest single finds Rome and Joey Bada$$ delivering menacing bars over eerie, rickety boom bap production.

EMMA ANDERSON (LUSH) – “CLUSTERS”
Former Lush singer/guitarist Emma Anderson has shared a second song from her upcoming solo debut, which she made with Maps’ James Chapman. “It was the first track I worked on with James,” says Emma. “I guess it’s the pop one on the album but, although it’s upbeat, I think lyrically it’s actually quite dark.”

CHAI – “GAME”
“Winning isn’t the goal, it’s the strategizing and challenge that matters♡ So it doesn’t matter if you lose,” says MANA of CHAI concerning their new single and video. “Take that loss and turn it into an even better strategy! Life’s a game! We made the video with our lovely friend Ginger Root♡ It’s fun and NEO KAWAII♡ As long as you’re living, you can play the game as many times as you want. Be honest to your heart, don’t take it too seriously, and live life.” CHAI’s self-titled fourth album is out this week.

FAYE WEBSTER – “LIFETIME”
Before beginning her fall North American tour, Faye Webster has shared another new single, the jazzy “Lifetime.”

JULIANA HATFIELD – “TELEPHONE LINE” (ELO COVER)
“Sonically, ELO recordings are like an amusement park packed with fun musical games with layers and layers of varied, meticulous parts for your ears to explore; production curiosities; huge, gorgeous stacks of awe-inspiring vocal harmony puzzles,” Juliana Hatfield says of her cover of this ELO classic. “My task was to try and break all the things down and reconstruct them subtly until they felt like mine.” Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO will be out November 17.

SAMANTHA URBANI – “TIME KEEPS SLIPPING” FT. REXY
Samantha Urbani’s debut solo album Showing Up is out this Friday, and she’s given us a final early taste with the funky “Time Keeps Slipping,” which features cult ’80s band Rexy, who Samantha previously covered.

THE MENZINGERS – “COME ON HEARTACHE”
The Menzingers have shared another taste of their upcoming album Some Of It Was True, and like the previous singles, it finds them leaning into their ragged heartland rock side and coming out with instantly-satisfying results.

MIKE, WIKI, & THE ALCHEMIST – “MAYORS A COP”
MIKE, Wiki, and The Alchemist have a collaborative album out this Friday, but until then, you can feast your ears on this great new single.

BLEACHERS – “MODERN GIRL”
Bleachers have a new album on the way via Dirty Hit, and while it’s still to be announced, they’ve given us the first taste with the anthemic “Modern Girl,” their first single for their new label home.

HILARY WOODS – “WHERE THE BOUGH HAS BROKEN”
Hilary Woods will release new album Acts of Life on November 3 via Sacred Bones, and the first single is the hauntingly atmospheric “Where The Bough Has Broken.”

PHILIP SELWAY, ELYSIAN COLLECTIVE, CHRIS VATALARO – “PICKING UP PIECES” (LIVE AT EVOLUTION STUDIOS)
Radiohead’s Philip Selway announced a new EP with the Elysian Collective ensemble, Live At Evolution Studios, due out December 8 via Bell Union. It’s a companion to Strange Dance, and the first single is a stripped down live take on album track “Picking Up Pieces.”

LOWERTOWN – “BLINE”
Atlanta duo Lowertown, who will soon be on tour with Wednesday in Europe, have announced a new EP, Skin of My Teeth, which will be out October 27. You can check out the brooding “Bline,” which singer Olivia Osby says is ” about insecurity, rejection, and old baggage inspired by my experiences of first moving to New York and London when I was 18-20 years old.”

OH LAND – “I’D RATHER SING”
“I’m commenting on the pressure and expectations of rushing through an educational system to be spat out on the work market,” Oh Land says of her newest single, “I’d Rather Sing.” “If it brings you joy, do it! I feel stressed out on the behalf of young people who need to make big educational choices very early and sometimes don’t get the time it takes to figure out what they’re naturally driven towards doing.” It’s from her new album Loop Soup.

BAXTER DURY – “CROWDED ROOMS” (MAXIMUM SECURITY REMIX BY PARQUET COURTS’ AUSTIN BROWN)
Parquet Courts has remixed a few of Baxter Dury’s songs from this year’s excellent I Thought I Was Better Than You, the first of which to surface is the “Maximum Security” remix of “Crowded Rooms” that takes things into rave territory.

ALLAH-LAS – “DUST”
California’s Allah-Las continue to float on a mellow wave on this latest single from their upcoming album, Zuma 85.

THE DRUMS – “THE FLOWERS”
“With “The Flowers” I explain how slowing down and being tender saved my life and how it became the key to loving myself, building confidence in myself, and being able to love another in a meaningful way,” says Drums frontman Jonny Pierce. “To love from a place that isn’t desperate, but from a place that is centered, calm, and gentle and sweet.” The band’s new album, Jonny, is out October 13.

JANE REMOVER – “CENSUS DESIGNATED”
Jane Remover has shared the title track to her new album Census Designated, which is also her first music video.

THE BREEDERS – “DIVINE MASCIS”
The Breeders release their 30th anniversary edition of The Last Splash on Friday and among the unearthed goodies is a version of single “Divine Hammer” where Dinosaur Jr‘s J Mascis takes lead vocals.

SLEAFORD MODS – “BIG PHARMA”
Sleaford Mods released UK Grim earlier this year and clearly they had bile left over as they’ve just announced More UK Grim which will be out October 20 via Rough Trade. The EP features five new songs, plus a remix. The first single diving straight into button-pushing controversy: “Big Pharma.”

REVEREND KRISTIN MICHAEL HAYTER – “I WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS”
Kristin Hayter, fka Lingua Ignota, has given us another early taste of her first album as Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, which you can read more about here.

CHELSEA WOLFE – “DUSK”
After a decade on Sargent House, Chelsea Wolfe has signed to Loma Vista (St. Vincent, Killer Mike, Militarie Gun) and released her first single for the label — the smoldering “Dusk.” The song was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, and of it Chelsea says, “The friends or lovers have gone through hell and back but are still and always united in the end by love, like pottery gone through the fire, broken and pieced back together.”

JAKE SHEARS – “DOSES” FT BIG FREEDIA (EROL ALKAN REWORK)
“I immediately chose ‘Doses’ to rework as I could hear exactly where I wanted to take it,” Erol says of his new Jake Shears rework. “It was made for my own DJ sets in mind, a track designed to bring the house down. It’s rare for me to rework the same artist twice, but Jake is not just a good friend from the dawn of the millennium / Trash days, it’s also that Scissor Sisters let me do whatever I wanted to their track ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’ back in 2006 and it remains one of my favorite reworks.”

JOHNNY MARR – “SOMEWHERE”
“I’ve played a lot of arenas over the years, and in terms of songwriting, there’s nowhere to hide,” Marr says of his new single, which features that jangly sound he had during his time in The Smiths and The The. “For a song to work, it has to be a banger. I know it’s almost uncool to think in those terms, but I grew up in a house where my parents listened to Motown, where you couldn’t get a song released if it wasn’t full of hooks.”

THE DAVID TATTERSALL GROUP (WAVE PICTURES) – “BRIGHT MOON”
The David Tattersal Group, the new group from The Wave Pictures frontman, will release their self-titled debut album via Bella Union Private Press on October 6. Check out a track.
