Ryan Gosling’s nonchalant portrayal of Ken, his dedication to it in interviews and the emotional ballad “I’m Just Ken” weren’t enough, the actor has now given Barbie Another gift for fans: His cover of Matchbox Twenty’s “Push.”
the song appeared on the deluxe version of the film’s soundtrack best weekend edition ever, It also includes “Close to Fine” by the Indigo Girls, performed by Brandi and Catherine Carlyle. While the song is the theme song for Barbie’s travels, “Push” provided a similar soundtrack for Kens around the world.
In the film, the word “push” first appears when Gosling’s Ken proposes to “play the guitar” for Barbie, a nod to a man’s inexplicable desire to serenade a woman against her will. Before long, all the Kens in Barbieland were singing the song to their Barbie dolls at the same time. For the supporting actor, this moment signifies a terrifying moment of awareness, but Gosling’s ludicrous affectation of Rob Thomas’ voice makes it all worth it. Check out the cover below.
In addition to Gosling’s two songs, Barbie: The Album Featuring original tracks by Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, HAIM and more, as well as a duet by Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, featuring Aqua’s iconic “Barbie Girl” as a sample.
