Musician and in-demand producer Sam Evian has announced his new album, Plunge, which will be out March 22 via Flying Cloud Recordings / Thirty Tigers. The album was self-produced at Sam’s Catskills studio and it features contributions from by Big Thief‘s Adrianne Lenker, Palehound‘s El Kempner, Liam Kazar, and Sean Mullins. “No-one knew the songs or what the plan was,” Sam says. “We kept it loose and fun. This was the spirit of the sessions. No headphones, no playback, minimal overdubs, or bleed. Fast and loose.” He adds, “I spend so much time trying to make perfect recordings for everyone else, so it was a slight act of resistance to make something wild and kind of fucked up for myself.”
The first single from Plunge is the warmly nostalgic “Wild Days” that comes with a video, directed by CJ Harvey, featuring Super-8 footage of the sessions…as well as a plunge in a nearby creek. You can watch that below.
Sam Evian has also announced a tour where he’ll be joined by partner Hannah Cohen. The NYC stop is at Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 26 and tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, January 19 at 10 AM local time. Check out Sam’s tour schedule below.
