Less than a month before the release of their upcoming new studio album, Slowdive returns with another new single: a reflective, dreamlike track titled “skin in the game.” Watch a visualizer of the song below.
Based on the bleak vocals of Neil Halstead, “skin in the game” captures the hazy aesthetic and reflective soundscapes that Slowdive has been known to deliver since its debut. This time, overlapping acoustics and processed electric guitar blend effortlessly with Halsted’s voice, singing the lines: “I won’t know, you won’t say now/Because you Don’t tell, I’ll never ask.” Listen to the song below.
Last month, Slowdive announced their fifth studio album, everything is alive, which will be available on September 1st via Dead Oceans.Along with the announcement, they also released the record’s first single, “Kisses,” which is titled resultsong of the week.
Talking about the new album and the life changes leading up to the band’s creation, frontman Rachel Goswell said “some of us have had some profound transformations personally.” She went on to explain that these transformations are reflected in the band’s music . “everything is alive Experienced, yet each note poised, wise, and necessarily hopeful,” she says. “Its unique magic subtly embodies sadness and gratitude, groundedness and uplifting.” “
Slowdive is also currently on a world tour in support of everything is alive, will last until early November. Check out the full list of dates, and get tickets here.
