Spirit of the Beehive will follow their great 2021 album Entertainment, Death with a new EP, I’m So Lucky, on September 1 via Saddle Creek (pre-order). The EP was written after band members Zack Schwartz and Rivka Ravede ended a romantic relationship that had lasted over 10 years, and the lyrics on this EP are said to primarily deal with their breakup.
“For the first three or four months after it ended, it was pretty rough,” says Zack via press release. “I don’t know if anybody was sure we would continue doing the band. But then we sorted it out slowly and we just all wanted to get back to work.”
The EP has four new songs, two of which are out now–“Tapeworm” and “Natural Devotion 2”–along with a double video directed by Daniel Patrick Brennan. They’re as noisy and weird and genre-less as you’d expect from this band, and you can check out the songs and the video below.
SOTB will also celebrate the EP on a short September tour with Mary Jane Dunphe, including New York shows in Kingston on September 12 at Tubbys and Brooklyn on September 15 at Baby’s All Right. All dates are listed below.
Mary Jane Dunphe also opens some dates on Angel Du$t’s tour (and sings on their upcoming album) and Fiddlehead’s tour, including the latter’s NYC show on September 23 at Webster Hall. Her new album Stage of Love comes out this month (8/18) via Pop Wig.
