Ella Williams is ready Tomorrow’s fire, Her latest album “Squirrel Flower”. The record will arrive via Polyvinyl on October 13, and with the news, Squirrel Flower has announced new dates for a lengthy international tour and shared two songs from the project.
williams homemade fire of tomorrow With engineer Alex Farrar. Inspired by the likes of Jason Molina, Tom Waits, and Bruce Springsteen, the artist describes the album as more of a rock album than any folk album she’s released before. For a heavier feel, she enlists Matt McCown (Bon Iver), Seth Kaufman (Angel Olsen Band), Jack Lenderman (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday) and Dave Hart Leigh (The War on Drugs) forms her studio band. Reservations for the project are in progress.
Crappy single “Full Time Job” finds Squirrel Flower trying to balance the necessities of life (i.e. working to survive) with finding true happiness. “Doing my best is a full-time job / But it doesn’t pay the rent,” she repeated. In the music video, the artist attempts to clear the oceans of water to indicate the doomed nature of the cycle. “When a Plant Dies” is slower, but still maintains the same mournful tone as Williams sighs, “There must be more important things in life than being on time.” Listen to the two tracks below.
This summer, Squirrel Flower will support Huayou Orchestra on their Riff Raff tour before embarking on a long headline tour in the fall. The shows will continue into the new year with rotating support from the Truth Club, Merce Lemon, Knifeplay, Goon, Cryogeyser and Alexalone. See below for Williams’ full tour itinerary and grab your tickets via Ticketmaster.
Squirrel Flower was last released in 2021 planet EP, followed by full-length planet (1).
