A24’s new 40th anniversary 4K restoration of iconic Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense — directed by the late, great Jonathan Demme — makes its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival followed by a nationwide theatrical run starting September 22. They’ve just dropped the trailer for it and even if you’ve seen it dozens of times over the years, watching this still thrills even if I am personally not sure I can tell immediately that this is a huge improvement over the other DVD releases. But it succeeds in making me want to see it in a theater with a full house. Watch the trailer below.
The 9/11 Toronto premiere, along with the Q&A between all four original members, in-person, talking with filmmaker Spike Lee (who worked with David Byrne on American Utopia), is also being broadcast to IMAX theaters nationwide. (Check for IMAX theaters and tickets here.) It then gets a one-week exclusive run at IMAX theaters starting September 22, and after that moves onto less gigantic theater screens on September 29. Get tickets here.
