Sydney Sprague’s 10 Favorite Albums of 2023
1.) USA – Petey
This is hands down my favorite album of the year. Its an instant classic for me. “I‘ll Wait” & “Did I Mention I’m Sorry” are tied for my favorite song, they both get played on repeat just about every day.
2.) Something To Give Each Other – Troye Sivan
This album absolutely blasts my brain with good chemicals. It’s euphoric.
3.) Yard – Slow Pulp
Yard is just exactly my sh*t. The songs are simple and effective, the production is really thoughtful and there’s a ton of texture. The mood is laid back and hazy and the lyrics are full of yearning. Its like it was made in a lab for me.
4.) You Are Who You Hang Out With – The Front Bottoms
The Front Bottoms don’t miss. The songwriting on this album is really strong and I feel like they found a great balance of staying true to the TFB vibe while also trying new things. I love it.
5.) BRAND NEW SOUL – Angel Du$t
My partner, Chuck, got me really into this. He’s been playing it around the house a lot and it’s just a great mood boost.
6.) This Is Why – Paramore
The cool thing about Paramore is that there are a million different directions they could go in musically and all of them would be amazing. This album is iconic. What a sick comeback.
7.) I’M OKAY NO I’M NOT – Abby Holliday
I got introduced to Abby through my friend Michigander earlier this year and I’ve been obsessed ever since. The songs are fantastic and I really love the production on this album, especially the way Abby’s voice is presented. 10/10.
8.) The Window – Ratboys
I’d been loving The Window already, but then on Halloween I got a last minute chance to open for Ratboys in Phoenix. Hearing these songs live really cemented it for me. Chris Walla is my favorite producer, I love everything he touches and he really killed it on this one.
9.) GUTS – Olivia Rodrigo
The absolute SASS of it all. It’s a laser-sharp, perfect pop album.
10.) RUCKUS – Movements
RUCKUS gives me a really nostalgic feeling. It’s like a combination of so many things I love and it helps knowing that Movements are just some of the nicest people you could ever imagine. I love listening to this album.
