Taking Back Sunday have announced the openers for this year’s Holiday Spectacular, along with the pre-show acoustic set & pop-up happening the afternoon of the Saturday (12/16) NJ show. This year’s openers include old friends Kevin Devine and comedian Neil Rubenstein (the latter of whom did some iconic guest screams on Tell All Your Friends), as well as some newer bands carrying the torch for Long Island emo–Oso Oso, Koyo, and Common Sage–and frequent Holiday Spectacular openers Modern Chemistry.
The Long Island shows happen 12/13 & 12/14 at Mulcahy’s with Kevin Devine and Common Sage on night one and Koyo and Neil Rubenstein on night two; and the NJ shows happen 12/15 & 12/16 at Starland Ballroom with Oso Oso and Koyo on night one and Kevin Devine and Modern Chemistry on night two.
The acoustic pre-show + pop-up happens at Starland Ballroom on 12/16 from 1:30-4 PM with an exclusive poster, local vendors, TBS merch, food trucks, a charity photo op with Santa and TBS, and more. Proceeds go to Tamerlaine Animal Sanctuary in honor of the band’s late friend and lawyer, Dave Stein.
Both Long Island shows and NJ night two are sold out but tickets for NJ night one and the pre-show are on sale here.
TBS also have a couple NYC-area events happening sooner than that, in celebration of their new album 152: a Long Island in-store on Sunday (11/12) at Looney Tunes and a NYC release show on Monday (11/13) at Bowery Ballroom.
Read our recent feature on 10 major musical influences on 152 and pick up our exclusive vinyl variants of 152 and the new Louder Now reissue in the BV shop.
Also check out our interview with Koyo about their debut album Would You Miss It?, which we’ve also got an exclusive vinyl variant of. About the TBS shows, Koyo say, “If you know our band, you know how much this means to us.”
