The Battle for Existence introduces the film concept behind the album of the same name. TesseracT have always taken a maximalist approach to their art, both aurally and visually, but this might be their most ambitious project yet.
The story behind the album focuses on the saga of “The Strangeland”.Band synopsis: “Dream crash landing, ‘ex’ and ‘el’ wake up and find themselves in ‘strange land’, facing an enemy simply called ‘fear’, the two are separated, and so begins battle of existence…”
The title track’s 11-minute video brings the concept — part action/adventure movie, part video game, part musical composition — to life. Musically, TesseracT continues to explore the Djent side of progressive metal with literary fervor.
“‘Battle of Existence’ is a struggle for acceptance, a battle for survival and resistance to self,” said band member Daniel Tompkins. “As we burst through the white noise of reality, it’s a struggle for control. It’s the need to recognize and identify with ourselves, to accept and understand what we stand for and who we are. There is an urgent need to ‘tear off the mask’, to reveal true self.”
battle of existence Recorded at Middle Farm Studios in the UK, the album was co-produced by Peter Miles with the band and Choir Noir’s Katherine Marsh.
