Austin slowcore great The American Analogue Set suddenly have a lot going on. There’s a Numero Group retrospective/reissue program in the works, and last week they announced they’d be releasing For Forever, their first album in 18 years, at the end of this month.
The band have shared a few more details about the new album, as well as two songs from it. “We started playing together again in 2013 and began work on For Forever in 2015,” they write. “We finished it in 2019 and left it under the couch for a few years while the world was on fire.”
The two songs from For Forever they’ve shared are “Camp Don’t Count,” which is pretty noisy for them, and “Konika and Maliko,” which with its vibraphone backing is very much in the “The Kindness of Strangers” AmAnSet mode. You can listen to both below.
The band note that the new album is not part of the Numero Group release, saying we’ll learn more about that soon.
Disappointingly, AmAnSet say they have no plans to tour right now. “We won’t rule out an Austin show,” they say, “but we don’t have anything planned outside the city.”
For Forever is out October 27. Preorder it here.
