The baronesses are gearing up to release their new album Stone Now, September 15, they’ve released the second single from their highly anticipated LP, “Beneath the Rose,” along with an accompanying music video.
“Beneath the Rose” is a melodic hard rock song with muddy guitars and raw, aggressive vocals.
“It feels great to release music again,” singer and guitarist John Bazley said in a statement. “Especially with songs like ‘Beneath the Rose,’ we’re gold and gray meeting about six years ago.The song never really caught on during those sessions, but once we started writing Stone, the first thing I did was pull the main guitar riff out of retirement to see if we could breathe new life into the skeleton of the song. “
He added: “With [first single] “The Last Word”, “Under the Rose” became a microscopic expression Stone, a sort of mission statement that alludes to the broad musical territory we cover on the rest of the album. It is also part of a trilogy of songs, which also includes “Chorus” and “Elegy”. “
In typical Baroness style, the band kept things DIY for the music video for “Beneath the Rose.” The band members themselves directed the cut, which was edited by Bazley and bassist Nick Jost. “Last Word” also comes with clips created by Yost.
“In much the same way that we decided to create and produce Stone We’ve taken a similar DIY approach to our videos ourselves,” Baizley added. “This is the second part of a video series we’re working on: filming, directing and editing ourselves. It’s an exciting and creative process utilizing elements of photography, stop motion, animation and traditional video. We’re curious to see how far we can go Stone A series of video projects that rely heavily on found objects, local environments and our admittedly limited lighting, video and photography equipment. As with all Baroness projects, it felt great to further expand our creative vision and capabilities. “
The Baroness will be on an extensive North American tour in fall 2023 in support of the new album. Tickets can be purchased here.
