Newport Folk Festival held its 2023 edition last weekend (7/28-7/30), and in addition to the live sets he caught, photographer Emilo Herce did portraits with many of the weekend’s performers, including Ron Gallo, Mdou Moctar, Peter One, Nickel Creek, Abraham Alexander, Del Water Gap, Slaughter Beach Dog, Joshua Ray Walker, Indigo De Souza, The Hold Steady, Bartees Strange, James Maple (who made Bartees a leather guitar strap with his name embossed on it), Goose, Madison Cunningham, The Backseat Lovers, Alice Phoebe Lou, Tommy Prine, Harlem Gospel Travelers, Jobi Riccio, Laden Valley, Raye Zaragoza, Free Range, and Mereba.
