Following the release of their fantastic debut LP Growing Up in 2022, The Linda Lindas kept busy this year too, releasing a couple of new songs (“Too Many Things” and “Resolution/Revolution”), and playing shows, including dates with Paramore (who they also remixed) and festival sets at Coachella, Boston Calling, and Lollapalooza. As the year draws to a close, we asked the band about their favorite music of 2023, and they made us their ten favorite albums. Read that, their commentary included, below.
THE LINDA LINDA’S FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2023
Bethany Cosentino – Natural Disaster
Bethany, Bethany, Bethany. Getting to see her at the Troubadour for the release show of her beautifully put-together debut solo record was one of the most amazing experiences. The whole time we were thinking we know her I can’t believe we know her. Her talent keeps on shining brighter and we’re so proud to be friends.
Blonde Redhead – Sit Down For Dinner
All of their albums are great and this one is, too. Seeing them at the Belasco was super fun, and they have such a cool and distinctive sound that is definitely showcased on Sit Down For Dinner, but they also tried new things to keep things exciting.
boygenius – The Record
We were able to catch them three times this year! It’s really cool to see what close friends they are and how much fun they have onstage. Their music is so soulful, yet also gritty and inspiring, and instantly classic.
Dream Nails – Doom Loop
Wowwwww. Dream Nails opened for us in London in 2022, and listening to this album gives us such happy memories. We recognize some songs that we didn’t even know we had got a sneak preview of and, besides that, they’re such a good, good band that makes good, good (and important) music.
Kevin Abstract – Blanket
I love Brockhampton so much, but I also love Kevin Abstract and his solo project. It’s so cool how different this album is than Brockhampton. Such a beautiful album.
Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers – I Love You
Their debut album is packed with all sorts of catchy sounds and hooks. Perfect for listening to in the morning when you want to wake up and be woken up!
Paramore – This Is Why
Getting to tour with them on this album was surreal. From start to finish it’s so good and fun, and what more can we say? We danced to it every night on tour, and we continue to do so because it’s timelessly awesome. (And they’re number one on Mila’s Spotify Wrapped. She’s in the Top 0.05%!)
Rough Kids – The Black and White and Gray
What a ripping album. “Don’t Blow it Away,” “Sick and Tired,” “Nightmare Parade” — all hits! Every track is crammed with contagious energy and melody. Rough Kids’ catchy tunes, shredding guitars, dual vocals, and driving rhythm section make you wanna pogo and sing along for the whole spin.
Trap Girl – Diva’s Inferno
Unapologetically honest lyrics and fast and raw music join forces, birthing this EP that certainly lives up to its blazing name. I introduced myself to Trap Girl this year at Mosswood Meltdown. They said they were glad I said hi and clarified that despite their intimidating stage presence they’re actually very nice people. But that certainly doesn’t take away from the power and fire in their music — every syllable hits.
Usted Señalemelo – Tripolar
Such a rockin’ album and also such a beautiful album. One of my favorite bands of all time!!
The Linda Lindas already have big plans for summer of 2024, when they’ll hit the road with Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Rancid. That includes an NYC show at Citi Field on August 5. See all dates below.
