So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

DENT MAY – “TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN” FT PEARL & THE OYSTERS
“Juliette and Joachim from Pearl & The Oysters are two of my best friends in Los Angeles, and we’ve casually collaborated on a few of their tunes over the years,” Dent May says of the second single from his upcoming What’s for Breakfast? “I felt it was long overdue to have an official track together, and we wrote and recorded most of it from scratch in a single day at my studio Honeymoon Suite, finishing it up in a second session months later. The song originated from something Juliette wrote, which became the first verse. While we were working on an instrumental idea for the chorus, I started singing the chorus from a completely different song called “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun,” which I had partially demoed a while back. It was a beautiful serendipity that our two ideas lined up perfectly.”

MEI SEMONES – “TEGAMI”
“‘Tegami’ was my first time experimenting with Bossa Nova style music in odd meters,” says Mei Semones of this track from her upcoming debut EP. “It’s a love song. My partner likes to write me letters, but I’m not very good at writing letters back. So instead I wrote this song, hence the name of the song ‘Tegami’ which means ‘letter’ in Japanese. I think the range of style is really noticeable in this song, and it’s one of our more ambitious string arrangements with lots of intricate lines & textures.”

I tried to force myself to write some sappy-try-hard meaningful lyrics when really all this song was supposed to be, was the soundtrack of feeling absolutely on the top of the world.”
