After Adam Green and Kimya Dawson reunited last year to play the LA premiere of Meet Me in the Bathroom, The Moldy Peaches made their full band return for a few European shows this spring, and on Thursday night (8/10) they played their first headlining show in the US in 20 years at Brooklyn Steel. The crowd knew (and hung onto) every word as the band broke out the beloved songs from their self-titled debut, retaining their ramshackle charm while also sounding like a tight, well-practiced unit. Kimya’s voice was in fine form, sounding sweetly mischievous, and when they played Juno sountrack hit “Anyone Else But You,” the first few rows of people seemed to link arms and sway together as a group. See their setlist below.
Kimya’s aunt, disability rights activist Patrice Jetter, spoke to the crowd ahead of their set, and opening the show was the Moldy Peaches Talent Show, featuring short sets from the bandmembers’ other projects: Toby Goodshank, Bass Race, Only Son, and Candy Boys. See pictures from the whole night by P Squared below.
The Moldy Peaches return to Brooklyn Steel tonight (8/11) for a second show. Tickets are still available.
