Record Store Day just announced its list of 2024 exclusive titles, and one that caught our eye was a double-LP vinyl reissue of the Spawn soundtrack.
Spawn: The Album, as it was titled, was the soundtrack to the 1997 big screen adaptation of the Image comic series that featured very late-’90s collabs between electronica artists and alt-rock/nu-metal groups. Those unique match-ups included Orbital & Kirk Hammett, Korn & The Dust Brothers, Filter & The Crystal Method, Prodigy & Tom Morello, Butthole Surfers & Moby, Metallica & DJ Spooky, Henry Rollins & Goldie, Slayer & Atari Teenage Riot, Incubus & DJ Greyboy, Soul Coughing & Roni Size, and more. It was in much the same spirit as the Judgement Night soundtrack from a few years earlier that had rappers collaborating with alt-rock bands.
Record Store Day’s page for the album doesn’t offer up cover art for the reissue but does note that it’s pressed on “smoky red vinyl.”
Spawn: The Album debuted at #7 on the Billboard Album Chart and went gold, while Filter & The Crystal Method’s “(Can’t You) Trip Like I Do” was a Modern Rock and Active Rock hit. Watch the video for that and listen to Spawn: The Album below:
