So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. SUNWATCHERS – MUSIC IS VICTORY OVER TIME
NYC’s politically minded skronky jazz-punks Sunwatchers released their fifth album today. Music is Victory Over Time’s title came from a note scrawled in a book about electronic music. As a young man, he was involved in various thefts and violent crime and did some time in prison. And then, at age 51, he suffered a massive hemorrhage on both sides of his brain. After a week in a coma, he woke up to discover that he had a compulsive urge to paint and to speak in rhyme. About things moving so fast that it feels disorienting,” says Jensen. “Oftentimes I will cling to things that are familiar when I experience this, when it would be better to simply let those things go. Clinging to the past when life is moving forward around me is something that has only distanced me more from people and things that I care about. Writing this song was my way of acknowledging that and trying to let go of someone.”
