JOE RAINEY
Pow-wow singer and experimentalist Joe Rainey has a handfull of dates on top for late summer and fall. Next weekend he’ll be in Portland for Pickathon 2023, and other stops include Los Angeles, DC, Columbus, Denver, Tempe, and more.
KYLIE MINOGUE VEGAS RESIDENCY
In addition to new album Tension (due 9/22), Kylie Minogue is the latest artist to announce a Las Vegas residency, starting November 3 new club Voltaire at the Venetian Resort. The posters say it’s “more than a residency,” and Kylie told Variety, “I want it to be the kind of essence of what a Kylie show has become, enough glamour and abandon. I’ve got some versions of songs that have not been heard, like reinterpretations of songs, which is exciting. Live bed dances, amazing costumes. That’s the base and then we’ll see what surprises we can come up with.” Tickets go on sale August 9.
DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS
With their seventh album out today, “Come on Eileen” singers Dexys Midnight Runners have announced their first North American tour since that song was a hit here (1983!).
PAVEMENT BROOKLYN STEEL OPENERS
Pavement have announced the openers for their upcoming four-night Brooklyn Steel run and are as follows: Toronto’s Kiwi Jr (who have been compared to Pavement a few times) open on 9/11 (sold out), then it’s Momma on 9/12 (tickets), jammy band Garcia Peoples on 9/13 (tickets), and then Prison (featuring Stephen Malkmus’ friend Paul Major of Endless Boogie) on 9/14 (tickets).
WILLIAM TYLER / GARCIA PEOPLES
Before they open for Pavement, Garcia Peoples have a short run of Northeast dates with William Tyler & The Impossible Truth, beginning in Red Hook, NY on August 19 and from there hitting Brooklyn (Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder series on August 20), followed by shows in Hamden, Portsmouth, Portland, and Keene, before wrapping it up at Tubby’s Kingston on August 25.
THE POSTAL SERVICE / DEATH CAB
The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie begin their joint tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Give Up and Transatlanticism in September, and they’ve added some new support. Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES will now open the initial East Coast leg of the run, and Pedro the Lion will join them at their Santa Barbara show in October. Warpaint, The Beths, Built to Spill, and Iron & Wine each open select shows as well. They’ve also added a new Chicago show.
ARMOR FOR SLEEP / THE EARLY NOVEMBER
NJ emo bands Armor For Sleep and The Early November’s debut albums–Dream To Make Believe and The Room’s Too Cold, respectively–both turn 20 this year, and to celebrate, the bands will be playing them in full on a tour together. The Spill Canvas are coming along for the ride too.
CROWBAR / PRIMITIVE MAN / BODYBOX
New Orleans metal vets Crowbar have announced a late summer / fall tour with Denver’s Primitive Man that kicks off September 7 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Orlando’s Bodybox joins the tour starting September 12 in Atlanta, and dates include Asheville, Richmond, Syracuse, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland, Nashville and more
WE ARE SCIENTISTS
Veteran NYC indie rock trio We Are Scientists will be on tour in late fall, starting November 6 in Toronto and hitting Pittsburgh, Chicago, Denver, Portland, Vancouver, San Diego, Dallas, Austin, Nashville, DC, Philly and more before wrapping things up with a hometown show at Bowery Ballroom on December 15.
