Danny Boyle‘s 1996 big screen adaptation of Irvine Welsh‘s Trainspotting is getting a Criterion Collection edition and will be out January 30.
The film has gotten a new 4K digital restoration, supervised by Boyle, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. The Blu-ray also features an alternate 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.
For fans of the film’s equally iconic soundtrack, one of the bonus features is a documentary about it featuring reflections from Iggy Pop, Pulp‘s Jarvis Cocker, Primal Scream‘s Bobby Gillespie, Blur‘s Damon Albarn, Leftfield, Underworld, and more.
There’s also the usual Criterion bonus features, including a commentary track with Boyle, producer Andrew Macdonald, screenwriter John Hodge, and star Ewan McGregor, deleted scenes, and multiple making-of documentaries. The booklet comes with essays by critic Graham Fuller and Irvine Welsh, as well as Welsh’s glossary of terms from the film and book. It also comes with a new version of the poster and glow-in-the-dark packaging.
