After teasing its arrival earlier this month, twenty one pilots have announced that their new album, Clancy, is on the way, out May 17 via Fueled By Ramen.
Following 2021’s Scaled and Icy, Clancy concludes a sprawling, immersive multi-album narrative that began with Blurryface, a project that embodied Tyler Joseph’s deepest insecurities, in 2015. Clancy will even arrive nine years from the date of its release. The band also shared the synthy first single, “Overcompensate,” which comes with a music video directed by longtime collaborator Reel Bear Media.

“I realize that there is such an opportunity inside of the music to provide that storytelling … Not so much a concept album or concept song that you can’t extract your own experience from it,” Joseph told us in 2021 when discussing Scaled and Icy. “But for it to be grounded in some bigger story always felt more impactful. When you’re creating something, you want to make sure that you’re tethered to reality still. Even if you’re venturing deep into this abyss, tie rope around your waist. [You] keep it tied back to where you came from.”
