U2 paid tribute to The Pogues‘ Shane MacGowan, who died last week, at their Sphere show on Friday night. The band, who were Island Records labelmates with The Pogues in the ’80s and ’90s, covered their 1986 single “A Rainy Night in Soho,” with Bono asking the crowd to “Sing with us, for Shane MacGowan.” Bono also changed a few lyrics: “MacGowan’s song is never over, but we may never find out what it means / You’re the measure of my dreams.” Watch that below.
Meanwhile, U2 have added four more shows to their run at Las Vegas’ immersive Sphere which they say will be their final dates there. Those dates are February 23 & 24 and March 1 & 2 and bring their total to 40 shows at the $1 billion venue. Tickets are on U2 presale now and go on sale to the general public on December 8 at 11 AM Pacific. They’ve got 20 shows in total still to go — Phish will play the Sphere after that — and all dates are listed below.
