Farm Aid 2023 attendees got an amazing surprise on Saturday night via an unannounced set from Bob Dylan, who was backed by The Heartbreakers‘ Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, and Steve Ferrone. The surprises kept coming when Dylan strapped on an electric guitar — he plays piano almost exclusively at shows these days — for a short set of three 1965 tunes played much like the studio arrangements. They opened with “Maggie’s Farm,” then went to “Positively 4th Street” and finished with “Ballad of a Thin Man.” This was Dylan’s first Farm Aid appearance since the first in 1985.
The video screens weren’t on during their set and they didn’t say a word to the audience, not even “good night.” You can watch video of all three songs below.
Dylan’s fall tour hits the NYC area in November.
