Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom hosted a benefit show for Bad Brains vocalist H.R. on Monday night (12/11), whose struggle with SUNCT (Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform with Conjunctival injection and Tearing) headaches has left him unable to tour (there’s a GoFundMe to help support him as well). As L.A. Taco points out, H.R. wasn’t feeling well enough to attend in person, but a video message from him was shown early in the evening.
Performances included a “history of punk drumming” from Fred Armisen; a Bad Brains “hardcore celebration set” with Fishbone‘s Angelo Moore and Norwood Fisher and former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo; a “Dubside of Brains” set with ’90s-era Bad Brains vocalist Ras Israel Joseph I, Beastie Boys affiliate Money Mark, veteran reggae drummer Santa Davis, and Fisher; a Sublime set with surviving members Eric Wilson and Bud Daugh joined by the late Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob Nowell; and more. See some attendee-taken video from the show below.
