Foo Fighters have now been musical guests on Saturday Night Live nine times with this weekend’s appearance. They played “Rescued” and brought out H.E.R. for “The Glass.” Both are from this year’s But Here We Are, and for “Rescued” they were introduced by Christopher Walken who, 20 years later, finally said the band’s name right. You can watch both below.
Nine times is a lot, but Paul Simon still holds the record with 12 SNL appearances. Dave Grohl, though, has appeared as part of the musical guests 14 times now, including Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and once with Tom Petty. Grohl was also in a couple SNL sketches this week — the “Lake Beach” country music parody, and one set on an airplane.
Comedian Nate Bargatze was the host and Walken was also in the cold open as the Spirit of Halloween, a sketch that also featured former Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi. SNL also paid tribute to Friends star Matthew Perry, who died Saturday at age 54, by showing a photo right before the good night send-off.
You can watch sketches from this week’s SNL, along with both Foo Fighters appearances, below.
The next SNL is November 11 and boygenius have been tapped as musical guest — this seemed inevitable for this year — with host Timothée Chalamet.
