Dinosaur Jr are in the midst of their four-show run at London’s The Garage where they’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of Where You Been? by playing the album in full plus an encore of other songs. When the shows were announced, they promised surprise guests and have delivered so far. On Tuesday, Night 3, they brought out their old friend and tourmate Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine for “Tarpit” from You’re Living All Over Me, and he stuck around for Dinosaur Jr’s cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” Like they did at Bowery Ballroom in 2015, they also covered MBV’s “Thorn” with Lou Barlow singing lead.
On Monday (Night 2), Kevin’s MBV bandmate Deb Googe joined them for “Freak Scene” and Blur‘s Graham Coxon joined for “The Lung.”
On Sunday (Night 1), Googe also was on hand for “Freak Scene,” while Richard Ayoade (!) of The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace etc joined on guitar for “The Lung,” and they brought out Jim Jones for encore covers of The Stooges’ “TV Eye” and “No Fun.”
