After 20+ years in music, seven albums and nearly a dozen UK hits, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is finally making a dent in the US. As you may know, it’s all due to her 2001 single “Murder on the Dancefloor,” which was very memorably used in Saltburn and became a TikTok sensation, and then a worldwide hit again in January.
Currently in NYC, Sophie made her US television debut on Monday night, performing “Murder on the Dancefloor” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Backed by The Roots, Sophie played the song on a discofied remodel of the show’s set, complete with a mirrorball, runway and dancing fans surrounding her. It’s a lot of fun and you can watch that, and the original Grease-inspired video, below.
Sophie will be back in NYC this summer when she plays Webster Hall on June 6, which is her first ever show in the Big Apple. (She’s never toured here.) Tickets go on sale Friday, February 16 at 10 AM.
