Mutiny in Heaven is the new documentary about Nick Cave‘s infamous early-’80s post-punk group The Birthday Party. The film started making its way around to different North American theaters this month, and they’ve just shared a new clip you can watch. This one has the band talking about their first trip to the US and how they were deemed “too hot for New York,” after a wild show at The Ritz which ended up helping pack shows on the rest of their tour. “It was just great to have that feeling that you were capable of upsetting people so much,” the late Rowland S Howard recalls in the clip. Watch that below.
The documentary is being screened around the country to coincide with Nick Cave’s solo tour, and will play in NYC on October 1-3 at DCTV (tickets), as well as October 4 at Nitehawk Cinema Williamsburg (sold out), and October 5 at Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park (tickets). Both of the Nitehawk showings are part of the BrooklynVegan-presented Music Driven series.
Nick plays Kings Theatre on October 6 and Beacon Theatre on October 7 and October 8. We’re giving away tickets to the 10/8 Beacon show as well.
Nitehawk Cinema also has a few other music-related screenings coming up. Their “Live Sound Cinema” series takes a horror theme with Night of the Living Dead on October 10 at Nitehawk Prospect Park with Morricone Youth playing a live score; and Nosferatu on Halloween Night at Nitehawk Prospect Park with score by the Illusive Orchestra.
