Selena Gomez is back with a new single, “Love On,” her first release of 2024.
Opening with a dreamy chord progression and fuzzy samples of spoken French, “Love On” bursts open as a feel-good track “inspired by all the time Selena spent in Paris last year,” according to its press release. Musically, the song embraces the disco revival sound employed by Gomez’s peers like Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus, placing vocal hooks over a steady beat colored by a funky bassline.
The single also arrives with a music video by French director Greg Ohrel, depicting Gomez have a relaxing, romantic time in a beautiful seaside setting. With lovers embracing all around, Gomez dons a handful of fun outfits and dances alongside a crew of ballerinas. Watch the video below.
“Love On” is Gomez’s first release since last year’s “Single Soon,” a track produced by benny blanco and Cashmere Cat. At the time of that song’s release in August, she wrote that she was “not quite done with SG3,” so it’s unknown when more new music will arrive. The press release for “Love On” relays that the new single comes “as she continues to work in the studio” on a follow up to her 2020 album, Rare.
In other Gomez news, the third season of her show with Steve Martin and Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building, premiered this past August on Hulu. In October, it was renewed for a fourth season, which will once again include Meryl Streep.
Last month, it was announced that Gomez would portray Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic directed by David O. Russell. According to TMZ, Ronstadt met with Gomez several months ago, personally signing off on her casting.
