Wilco announce Cate Le Bon-produced LP, share “Evicted”

Wilco have announced their 13th studio album, titled Cousin, which will be out September 29 via dBpm Records. It was produced by Cate Le Bon, marking the first time Wilco have used an outside producer since 2007’s Sky Blue Sky.

“The amazing thing about Wilco is they can be anything,” says Le Bon, who got to know Wilco when she played their Solid Sound festival in 2019. “They’re so mercurial, and thereʼs this thread of authenticity that flows through everything they do, whatever the genre, whatever the feel of the record. There arenʼt many bands who are able to, this deep into a successful career, successfully change things up.” Cate encouraged Wilco to stretch outside their normal M.O. and brought some of her sonic bag of tricks to the sessions, including synths, drum machines, and multi-instrumentalist Euan Hinshelwood, who plays saxophone on the album.

The first single is “Evicted,” which is clearly a Wilco song but feels extra sparkled up. “I guess I was trying to write from the point of view of someone struggling to make an argument for themself in the face of overwhelming evidence that they deserve to be locked out of someoneʼs heart,” says Tweedy. “Self-inflicted wounds still hurt and in my experience theyʼre almost impossible to fully recover from.” Watch the lyric video below.

Wilco have UK/EU dates this summer and North American shows this fall, including a three-night stand at L.A.’s The Theatre at Ace Hotel, and a show at new L.A. venue The Bellwether in October. They’ll also host their Sky Blue Sky destination concert vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico in December. All dates are listed below.
