So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ELBOW – “GOOD BLOOD MEXICO CITY”
Elbow’s 10th album, Audio Vertigo, is out next week and here’s the final pre-release single. As with the other songs we’ve heard, “Good BLood Mexico City” shows this will not be your average Elbow album.

OLD 97’S – “MAGIC”
“‘Magic’ was the first song the 97’s tracked in Flora Studios with American Primitive producer Tucker Martine,” Rhett Miller says of the latest single from Old 97’s upcoming album. “We were just getting sounds, and finding our feet, and before we knew it, this song had come together so effortlessly that it felt like a harbinger of good things for the album. There’s something really special about a band playing and singing in real time. The way musicians react to each other and play off of each other creates its own sort of magic. And our band has the benefit of the same four musicians having collaborated for three decades. I’m proud of the psychic connection we’ve built up over all these years, and the way that it shines through in our music.”

HEAVENLY BLUE – “WE HAVE THE ANSWER”
Detroit screamo band Heavenly Blue have shared the title track of their upcoming album We Have The Answer. It’s a chaotic, multi-faceted song and band member Jon Riley says the song “embodies what Heavenly Blue is about. I feel like if you averaged all of our songs from the album together, this would be the center point of it.”

REYNA TROPICAL – “CONEXION ANCESTRAL”
“Conexión Ancestral is about starting the journey towards being in relationship with another part of my raíces,” says Reyna Tropical of this this verdant new single from upcoming album Malegría. “For me, that’s connecting with my Indigenous ancestors and the inherited knowledge that I carry through the love and listening of the land, its original stewards, and in turn with myself and my community. It’s about being willing to sacrifice everything I’ve ever known for the chance to be in reciprocity and trust with the earth, and allowing that relationship to be my guide towards belonging.”

DAN RINCON (OSEES) – “CESSNA”
You may know Dan Rincon as one of OSEES’ longtime drummers but he also makes music on his own and will release debut album, Spotlight City, on May 3 via Castle Face. “I was listening to a lot of solo Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler records while writing this record and I’d say that both have been hugely inspirational on what I want to do as a solo recording artist,” Dan says of the album. “The way both of those of those artist pushed the early, chaotic electronic music into something more melodic is really inspiring to me, it’s not that dissimilar than trying to get melodies out of a modular synthesizer.” Check out the high-flying “Cessna”.

VILLAGERS – “YOU LUCKY ONE”
Villagers’ fifth album, The Golden Time, is out in May, and the latest single is “You Lucky One.” “The video, much like the song, is a complicated, messy affair full of hellish landscapes and internal demons,” Conor O’Brien, who also directed the video, says. “It exists in a world conquered by irrational beings and emotional, selfish creatures. Corruption of the soul and disingenuous motivation are the order of the day, so I thought it best to serve with a side plate of the macabre and sinister.”

STUCK – “DEEP TUNNEL” & “AITA?”
Spiky trio Stuck are currently on tour with fellow Chicagoans Deeper and have just released this two-track single. “The song was inspired by a news article about Chicago’s strained Deep Tunnel Project, a system of reservoirs conceived in the 1960’s to alleviate flooding,” Greg Obis says of “Deep Tunnel.” “The city is, after all, built on a swamp. Rainfall in recent summers has overwhelmed the system, leading to the flooding of homes across Chicagoland and spilling sewage out into Lake Michigan.” As for “AITA?” asks a question many of us have.
