Women of the Pit is 501c3 that promotes women in hardcore punk, and they’ve put together a compilation album called Stronger Together Vol.1 with 16 bands from all over the world, from Poland to Peru to Indonesia to Ukraine to Scotland to Argentina, and a handful of US bands, including at least a few that readers of this website may already be familiar with: War On Women, MAAFA, and the Eugene Hutz-affiliated Puzzled Panther. The whole comp is awesome, and it’s got a lot of musical diversity, from fast-paced punk to chuggy metallic hardcore to crossover thrash, from melodic to snotty to tough and aggressive.
WOTP co-founder Lori Dawn tells us, “WOTP started out as a little group on Facebook to connect with each other and expanded into a 501c3 non-profit that highlights women of hardcore from bands to fans, while fundraising for initiatives that help women. Our dream of a compilation came about when I started discovering all these amazing bands from across the globe through Bandcamp and Instagram pages like Les Insoumises, Unite Asia and XsisterhoodX. Gina and I connected with Kim Cangemi from Upstate Records, whose enthusiasm and expertise guided us through every step. Don Fury generously donated his time to remaster each track, and Drew Stone offered invaluable advice and helped us promote it. We hope this CD, which is a fundraiser for Global Fund for Women, will showcase not only the talent but also the resilience of these musicians and inspire the next generation of women to pick up an instrument!”
