Last month, Delaware hardcore metal bands Year of the Sword Bassist Injured in Serious Car Accident Maddie Watkins The situation is critical.guitarist and bassist Brandon WatkinsMaddy, who suffered a concussion in the car accident (he and Maddy are married), posted an update on his condition. It says:
Madi is now at KPC Promise Hospital in SLC. This is a long-term acute rehabilitation facility. She will remain here until she is ready to participate in Ude’s acute rehabilitation program. Here they work on just about every form of rehabilitation you can think of, cognitive, speech, physical, etc. Things move very fast. She was able to regularly communicate with nurses through different gestures, such as giving a thumbs up or extending three fingers. Today she visually stalked us and looked into my eyes. I swear she kept saying B when she looked my way. She was also in a state of agitation due to all the pain and confusion. Doctors say it’s just part of waking up. It’s hard to watch someone you love suffer. But from here, things only get better, as before. The road ahead is long, but we are so grateful to all of you who keep us going.
Brandon wrote in a statement earlier this month: “Our Maddy has a long road to recovery. She has undergone surgery to repair a broken jaw, fractured face, femur and ankle. The most disturbing and challenging of her injuries has been trauma to her brain. It is uncertain how long it will take for Maddy to fully return to us.
“For the foreseeable future, my mom, Michelle, and I will remain in Utah and accompany Maddy through this long journey,” he continued. “The funds raised will continue to help this family with associated costs. We also know that insurance deductibles and costs not covered by insurance will be significant. Every dollar donated makes a huge impact and we are very grateful. Thank you so much to all of you!”
You can donate to the band’s recovery fund on GoFundMe. A benefit t-shirt is also available for pre-order; all proceeds will go to the band.
