So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
AESOP ROCK – “INFINITY FILL GOOSE DOWN”
Aesop Rock is two weeks away from the release of his new album Integrated Tech Solutions, and his sci-fi, third-eye-open indie-rap is in fine form on this one.

THE EARLY NOVEMBER – “ABOUT ME”
The Early November have confirmed a new album for 2024 via Pure Noise, and the Clarity vibes are strong on lead single “About Me.” Read more about it here.

BAR ITALIA – “WORLDS GREATEST EMOTER”
London trio bar italia release The Twits, their second album of 2023, next week and here’s one more earlier taste before the whole thing drops. “World’s Greatest Emoter,” is the closest they’ve come to punk (this year) with a driving backing overwhich Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton trade lines.

THE ANTLERS – “NEED NOTHING”
The Antlers have shared three singles so far this year, and here’s a fourth: the mellow “Need Nothing,” which the band says “is a song about appreciating what you have instead of dwelling on what you don’t. Gratitude is reinforced by frequent reminders and practice– upon slowing down and zooming in to a brief moment of contentedness, the ordinary can reveal itself as extraordinary.”

THE REDS PINKS & PURPLES – “DULL PANIC & SUNDAY GLOOM”
RPPs svengali Glenn Donaldson says he “will unlock The Reds, Pinks & Purples news-vault” on Friday — a surprise new album? — which will probably involve this jangly, gloomy new song that has been already shared to streaming services.
—
JHARIAH & PINKSHIFT – “EAT YOUR FRIENDS”
Jhariah wrote his new single after meeting longtime friends and tourmates Pinkshift, who also feature on it. “You feel like there’s so little to go around,” Jhariah says. “I’m a very competitive person, but also, I don’t want to be in competition with my friends. I want to be doing this together. It’s a very tricky thing.”

SEXLESS MARRAIGE (THE RED CHORD, DEAFHEAVEN, DOOMRIDERS, etc) – “HARSH LIGHT” (ft. J BANNON) & “FLIRTING WITH DISEASE”
Sexless Marriage–the heavy music supergroup with The Red Chord/Wormwood/Umbra Vitae members Mike McKenzie and Greg Weeks, Chris Johnson (Deafheaven, Doomriders), Chris Bevilacqua (Wormwood, ex-Doomriders), and vocalist Mike Morowitz (Weak Flesh)–will release their second album This Is Not Love on November 3 via Moment Of Collapse. Two songs are out now; “Harsh Light” features Converge/Umbra Vitae vocalist J Bannon and finds the band in sludgy noise rock territory, while “Flirting With Disease” is faster and punkier. Both are pretty nasty.

THY SLAUGHTER – “SENTENCE” & “IF I KNEW”
PC Music’s A.G. Cook and Easyfun made their debut as Thy Slaughter on 2014’s PC Music: Volume 1, and now they’ve returned with two more singles before the label stops releasing music at the end of 2023. Easyfun’s Finn Keane adds vocals to “Sentence,” while “If I Knew” features Alaska Reid.

GAZELLE TWIN – “A DOOR OPENS”
Gazelle Twin tracks are often an aural assault but “A Door Opens” is quiet and mournful. New album Black Dog is out this week via Invada.

THOMAS BARTLETT (DOVEMAN) – “TENDERLY”
Doveman’s Thomas Bartlett has announced new album, Standards Vol. 1, which will be out December 8 via Modern Recordings/BMG. As the title suggests, this time he’s covering classic songs in his own unique style, including “My Funny Valentine,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” and more. Here’s his take on Jack Lawrence & Walter Gross’ “Tenderly” that has over the years been performed by Sarah Vaughan, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, and more.

EVERYTHING EVERYTHING – “COLD REACTOR”
Quirky UK indie band Everything Everything will release new album Mountainhead on March 2024. “Cold Reactor is about striving for an advanced future and exponential growth at the cost of our own personal worlds and mental wellbeing,” says frontman Jonathan Higgs. “Lives lived through screens and isolation, leading to disconnected and emotionless reactions in the form of symbols.”

SAN FERMIN – “DIDN’T WANT YOU TO”
San Fermin say their new single is “about that feeling after a breakup, like, ‘well if you don’t want to be with me, I don’t want to be with you,’ which turns out to be be a pretty universal feeling. The wordplay was fun, messing around with different inflections of the refrain to hint at different meanings. I hope you like it.” It’s from new album Arms which will be out Febraury 16 via Company Records.

JOE WONG – “INTO NOTHING” FT MARY TIMONY & MATT CAMERON
“’Into Nothing’ is about the futility of legacy building given the suicidal nature of our species,” says composer and The Trap Set podcast host Joe Wong on the first single from his new album. “It resonates with a larger theme of the album–the same instincts that kept humanity alive for the majority of its existence are now leading us towards self annihilation.”

DIIV – “SOUL NET”
DIIV are currently on tour with Depeche Mode and at their opening sets, the band have mostly kept to old favorites. They’re also playing a few headline shows in between DM dates and have been throwing in a few new songs at those. One them, “Soul Net,” now has a studio version that DIIV just shared via a pretty weird website. Listen to it there and check out this recent live version (it’s known as “Housejam” on setlist):

CAST – “LOVE IS THE CALL”
Cast, the Britpop vets led by onetime La’s member John Power, have announced their seventh album, Love is the Call, which will be out early next year. It was made with most of the same lineup — Power (vocals/guitar), Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson (guitar) and Keith O’Neill (drums) — that gave us their great 1995 album All Change and it was produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth. Here’s the title track.
