Beth Gibbons, the sonorous vocalist behind trip-hop pioneers Portishead, inked a deal with Domino Records in 2013, but her solo project never came to light. Now, all these years later, her debut album, Lives Outgrown, is on the way.
Arriving May 17, the LP was recorded over the last decade and includes production by Gibbons, James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode), and Lee Harris (Talk Talk). It takes inspiration from a time of deep reflection, change, and, in Gibbons’ own words, “lots of goodbyes.” You can hear that in the transportive first single, “Floating On A Moment,” which is out today with an accompanying music video.

“I realized what life was like with no hope,” Gibbons says. “And that was a sadness I’d never felt. Before, I had the ability to change my future, but when you’re up against your body, you can’t make it do something it doesn’t want to do.”
