Cat Power announced a new live cover album, Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert, due out on November 10 via Domino. It’s a recording of the show she played in November of 2022, recreating Dylan’s legendary 1966 Royal Albert Hall show at the same venue. Like the actual show, Cat Power performed the first half acoustic and the second half electric, and you can hear her set-opening acoustic rendition of “She Belongs To Me,” and an electric version of “Ballad of a Thin Man,” below.
“More than the work of any other songwriter, Dylan’s songs have spoken to me, and inspired me since I first began hearing them at 5 years old,” Chan Marshall says. “When singing ‘She Belongs To Me’ in the past, sometimes I turned it into a first-person narrative – ‘I am an artist, I don’t look back.’ I really identified with it like that. But for the show at Royal Albert Hall, I, of course, sang it the way it was originally written – with the respect for the composition…and the great composer.”
Cat Power will also be bringing her covers of Dylan’s Royal Albert Hall show to the stage again, for two shows at Los Angeles, CA’s Troubadour on November 6 and November 7. Tickets to both go on sale Friday, September 15, and more dates are still to be announced.
Cat Power is wrapping up a tour with Pixies and Modest Mouse; Dylan just added more shows to his fall tour.
