Liam Gallagher will be doing a UK tour later this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe, but in an interview in the new issue of Mojo (via Stereogum), he claims the tour came about after brother Noel turned down an offer for the Britpop icons to reform and do the tour.
“Noel? He ain’t fucking doing it… I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team,” Liam told Mojo. “We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing — because we got offered it — and he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it; he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the Definitely Maybe thing and have a nice time without him.”
Maybe Noel’s attitude will change, though. Oasis have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and if they’re chosen a reunion would seem more likely, though Liam has no interest in that particular accolade. “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG x” he wrote the night of the nomination. Noel might also just be waiting for next year when (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, a much bigger album, turns 30. “It’s down to the universe,” Liam told Mojo. “It’ll happen when it happens; it’s not in our hands anymore. Me, I love nostalgia, though. I’m doing the lot. Every album, even… what was the last one?” Mojo reminds him it was 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul. “Fucking right, man! You never enjoy them the first time round, so I’ll be milking the lot. People say it’s the comfort zone. I want to be in the comfort zone! Bring me my slippers and my little blankie and put me in the comfort zone, please. Life’s stressful enough.”
The interview was part of a Mojo cover story feature on the album Liam made with The Stone Roses guitarist John Squire that will be out March 1. Liam and John will also play NYC’s Brooklyn Paramount on April 11 which is currently their only North American show.
