The list of Record Store Day 2024 exclusive releases has been announced and it’s loaded with tons of cool stuff. If you’re an ’80s/’90s Seattle grunge fan, there are some very cool treats in there.
Mudhoney are putting out a 5LP box set called Suck You Dry: The Reprise Years, featuring the three major label albums they released on Reprise in the ’90s–1992’s Piece of Cake, 1995’s My Brother the Cow, and 1998’s Tomorrow Hit Today–as well as their 1993 Reprise EP Five Dollar Bob’s Mock Cooter Stew and two bonus LPs of live tracks, B-sides, and unreleased demos that were never released on vinyl. It also features liner notes by Mudhoney: The Sound And The Fury From Seattle author Keith Cameron and new artwork by illustrator Edwin Fotheringham. The box also marks the first North American vinyl pressing of Piece of Cake.
Grunge pioneers Malfunkshun–whose classic lineup included brothers Andrew and Kevin Wood and drummer Regan Hagar before Andrew formed Mother Love Bone and Regan formed Brad–will be releasing Olympus Awaits, “a definitive compilation of all Malfunkshun recordings.” It includes the entire Return to Olympus album (recorded in the ’80s but released in 1995 after the band had broken up and Andrew had passed) on vinyl for the first time ever, as well as “very early demo recordings” that had only previously existed on compilations. Screaming Trees are also unearthing some early demos in the form of Strange Things Happening – The Ellensburg Demos 1986-88. It’s the band’s second year in a row with a rare RSD release.
Loosgroove Records, the label founded by Malfunkshun/Brad’s Regan Hagar and Pearl Jam/Mother Love Bone’s Stone Gossard, is releasing a compilation called House of LSGRV featuring songs by Brad, Ani DiFranco & Stone Gossard, Josh Freese, Stone’s band Painted Shield, and more. Tracklist below.
